Lloyd Tyrone Miller
“SNOOKS”
Lloyd Tyrone Miller was born on August 19, 1939 in Miami, Florida. The son of Mildred Taylor Davis Miller (President and Founder of Spiritual Guidance Temple of Truth). He assumed the name of Lloyd Miller who raised and cared for him. Affectionately known as "Snooks," and rarely by his first name, Snooks was known to be a loving man full of wit, and comedic timing.
Snooks cared deeply for children, his community and his family. As a young man, his athletic aspirations were of football; even trying out for the Miami Dolphins. Those aspirations were short lived as he unfortunately sustained a leg injury. This didn't keep him off the field as he enjoyed coaching football to youths in the community.
His professional work consisted of working with the State of Florida; spanning over 19 years with the Department of Transportation, and subsequently with the Turnpike Operations Center. He was fulfilled and enjoyed most his role in helping minority businesses owners as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Coordinator.
Snooks acquired the spirit of entrepreneurship from his mother, as he founded his own construction company, Miller Construction. For 30 plus years he managed multiple projects, and as a licensed contractor provided consultation for various engineering and design companies.
Transitioning on February 16, 2021, Lloyd left behind a loving family of children: Dwight Miller, Donna Miller (recently deceased), Lloyd Andre Miller, Tanya Miller, Famesha Miller, and Freddie Higgins; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a devoted companion, Margaret Higgins. His two sons, David Miller (Betty Miller) and Derek Miller preceded him in death.
